The Advanced Academy class at the annual Municipal Clerks Institute traditionally includes a day-long book study. The study is part of IIMC's Athenian Dialogue program, and must meet certain educational criteria. This year's Dialogue will be led by Dr. Jane Long, a returning Institute instructor known for her engaging and thought-provoking teaching style.

The book is Draining Dixon: How Rita Crundwell Embezzled More Than $50 Million from Her Illinois Town. It is a compilation of Chicago Tribune reporting on the scandal, during which the city's treasurer stole money for many years without detection. Among other things, the money was used to build and maintain an extensive Quarter Horse operation, for which she was well known.
